THE MILK LIVE CAMPAIGN IN CANADA BRINGS MUCH SUCCESS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF CHANGES!
Live screenings of the film followed by educational workshops, training sessions and/or panel discussions took place in 72 communities across Canada thanks to the support of Filmblanc, The Telus Fund and partner organizations such as Health Canada, Provincial Health Authorities and numerous NGOs from across the country. Much impact was created and these are just a few of the comments we received:
“ MILK has been a wonderful way to bring together communities across Newfoundland and
Labrador to talk about birth and infant feeding . Milk served as an eye opener to the systemic issues that must be addressed.
The program has been a catalyst to bring municipal partners to the table. We have since applied for provincial funding to develop a municipal breastfeeding toolkit that includes a proposed policy template and promotional items.”
From SJ- Newfoundland
“We are in discussion to start a breastfeeding support group and on going education and support for new mothers is underway”
From Mistawasis- First Nations Saskatchewan
Our community will now offer a Mom 2 Mom Support groups to
all mothers instead of just breastfeeding mothers. The film sparked the need for more support to
all moms! ” From Woodstock- Ontario
“ I would recommend the film to my social and personal network, schools, next generation, politicians, departments
who make policy & budgets, community members and all. Students both high school and tertiary from all disciplines, med students, paediatricians, maternity and paediatric nurses. Great Film! “ - University of British Columbia.
“The discussion panel allowed member of our health care community to link with the nursing program at our university.
Since then, a research study around supporting low-income families to access breastfeeding support networks is underway.
In addition, we are adding MILK to our curriculum” From Western University- ON
